History of the treatment
Albena was diagnosed with colon cancer with metastasis in the liver in June 2016.
She immediately started chemotherapy (Xelox, then Folfox 4 and Avastin), which aimed to reduce the neoplasms in order for them to be surgically removed. After that six courses with Folfiri and Avastin were then conducted.
At the beginning of 2017, after a CAT-scan, it was estimated that the neoplasms had partial response to the chemotherapy. There were different views on how to continue the treatment. Some doctors recommended surgery to remove the colon carcinoma, while others insisted on continuing with the chemotherapy. There were more opinions to continue with the surgical treatment.
On April 21, 2017, surgery was performed to remove the colon tumor. The postoperative period included a blood loss and a longer than usual recovery.
